The Best Real Estate App You Never Knew You Needed

Key.me

  • Available For Download On: iPhone | Android
  • Price: Free (except for the cost of the new keys, which run about $3)
  • Why You’ll Love It: Sure, we might’ve created a whole separate category just for this one app, but it was for a good reason. Our panel of experts agreed that Key.me is by far one of the best apps for real estate agents and brokers — not to mention, the most practical. The app works by snapping a picture of the client’s key and heading to a nearby Key.me kiosk, where it will quickly make a copy based off the photo. All the key photos get saved in the app so more copies can be made in the future, if needed. Key.me solves all the logistical scheduling nightmares of trying to get a key in time for a client showing, especially since the kiosks are available at Rite Aid, 7-Eleven, and other large retailers.

The Best Apps For Accessing Real Estate Listings

Homesnap

  • Available For Download On: iPhone | Android
  • Price: Free
  • Why You’ll Love It: A free real estate app that’s powered by the MLS, Homesnap offers a section that’s only available to licensed agents and brokers; in it, they can access information about properties that they can’t get on Redfin or Zillow. For example, Homesnap points out which properties are being offered “as is” or on a “cash-only” basis. Gollan said that she uses Homesnap to research properties that her clients have seen elsewhere on the web so she can advise them on specific issues that might not have been evident in online listings.

Redfin

  • Available For Download On: iPhone | Android
  • Price: Free
  • Why You’ll Love It: Our panel of experts all swore by Redfin’s mobile app. Not only is it free, but it also shows MLS listings (updated every 10-15 minutes), as well as foreclosures, short sales, and for-sale-by-owner homes. Users can search by school district, neighborhood, and budget. Most of the experts agreed that Redfin’s interface is the easiest to use of all the real estate apps. Additionally, Greenspan said that she’s found Redfin’s price estimates to be the most realistic.

StreetEasy
