Medical Malpractice Insurance

Protect the career and reputation you’ve worked so hard for.

Medical malpractice (or “med mal”) insurance is a type of professional liability insurance that protects you in your role as a healthcare practitioner if someone alleges that you’ve been negligent or made a mistake in some way. It protects you even if the claim against you is false.

Why Should I Choose Cinch™ for My Medical Malpractice Insurance?

Plain and simple: financial security, our commitment to our customers, and competitive pricing.

Cinch is part of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), which offers financial stability, professionalism, and core values that center around a dedication to customer satisfaction. We have the added advantage of being able to sell directly to our customers—cutting out the brokers and middlemen—which allows us to reduce the cost of your insurance policy by about 20%.*

We also offer a simplified, same-day digital experience. Your coverage can start the same day you apply, and your online account is available to you 24 / 7.

If there’s ever a claim filed against you, we bring efficiency and transparency to all aspects of the claims-handling process. At its core, handling claims is about people—and our people bring skill and compassion to the process to protect your interests.

What Does a Cinch Med Mal Insurance Policy Include?

Here’s what you can expect to get with a Cinch medical malpractice policy;**

  • Legal representation;
  • Defense outside the limits of liability (meaning money spent on your defense won’t be deducted from your limits of liability—so if you have a $1 million limit, you’ll still have $1 million to pay for any settlements or damages);
  • Flexible deductible options, including $0 deductibles;
  • Flexible limits of liability, depending on your needs; and,
  • Convenient payment plans for selected policies.

What Are Insurance ‘Limits’ and How Do They Work?

Insurance limits are the amount of money for which you’re covered per claim/per policy term (which is usually one year). Your limits will often come as two separate, but related, figures, such as $1 million/$3 million. The first limit ($1 million in this example) is the amount of money that your policy will pay for each claim. The second limit ($3 million in this example) is an aggregate of how much money your policy will cover you for each policy year.

As part of your medical malpractice policy with Cinch, any legal representation would be paid by us and would not draw down the above limits. This is called “outside the limits of liability” and is very helpful if you need to have a trial and pay a settlement.

How Much Medical Malpractice Insurance Coverage Do I Need?

Typically, people choose limits of liability ranging from $250,000 to $2 million, based on the complexities of their job and the state in which they work. As you go through the “get a quote” process, we’ll highlight the most common limits of liability based on these types of factors.

How Much Does Med Mal Insurance Cost?

As with the amount of coverage you’ll need, the cost of a medical malpractice policy depends on a number of factors, including your particular medical profession, years of experience, how often you work, and any previous claims filed against you. A nursing student, for example, may pay as little as $14 a year, while a nurse anesthetist could pay over $1,000 a year.

Cinch offers competitive pricing, mostly because we let you buy direct. We cut out the middleman, which means that you could save up to 20% in fees—and, in some cases, even more***.

And if you get a quote for a lower-priced policy, we want to know about it.
